Comstice CUCM Webphone is based on WebRTC technology. Using NAT on the external firewall and Web Proxy features, you can have a secure audio communications in the web browser. WebRTC uses HTTPS for signaling and Secure RTP for the audio streams.

How does it work?

Comstice Webphone registers to Cisco Callmanager as a third-party SIP phone. Comstice WebRTC Gateway registers each WebRTc session on the web browser as a SIP Phone on Cisco CUCM.

What versions of Cisco Callmanager are supported?

Cisco CUCM Third-party SIP Phone support starts from v8.5. Any Cisco Callmanager with version 8.5 or higher is supported.

How does the rollout work?

Comstice WebRTC Server is provided as virtual server and hosted close to Cisco CUCM servers. Depending on the usage scenarios certain firewalls need to be opened as well.

What are the supported browsers?

Comstice Webphone uses WebRTC technology which is supported by Firefox, Chrome and recent Microsoft Edge browsers. Any modern browser supports WebRTC standard.

How is Comstice Webphone licensed?

It is subscription-based. Subscription is per named user or concurrent.

Which CODECs will be used?

Mainly G711 or G722 are used. CODECs will be negotiated during call establishment and depending on the Cisco CUCM configuration, OPUS, G711 or G722 can be used. Web browsers support a wide range of CODECs.

Does the solution support High Availability?

Comstice Webphone supports high availability. Multiple servers can be deployed and work as active/active in 1:1 redundancy.

How does audio recording work?

Audio recording will be done using media forking on the Cisco CUBE level. Otherwise, Comstice WebRTC Gateway can record the calls as well.

Do we need Cisco Jabber or Cisco ExpressWay?

No. There is no dependency for Cisco Jabber or Expressway.
